DRS Pivotal Power's BCS (T) 201 is an intelligent battery management system (IBMS) designed for use with nickel cadmium (NiCd) and nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries in tactical environments. This new generation equipment incorporates a microprocessor that identifies the individual requirements for up to 8 batteries and automatically supplies each with the required charging current. The Battery Tray pictured (Model #222-117-003) is capable of charging up to 6 batteries. This intelligent system ensures that all batteries are charged quickly and safely with minimal operator intervention. The IBMS also incorporates analyzing and reconditioning capabilities which facilitate optimization of battery life.
The IBMS is powered from either a 28 VDC or 115/230 V 60/50 Hz AC supply. The power circuit design of this equipment is based on state-of-the-art soft-switch-mode technology which provides a high power conversion density with excellent electromagnetic compatibility properties.
The IBMS is designed for ease of use with a simple user-friendly interface that can be effectively operated even under the most demanding tactical environment.
The IBMS can be equipped with a range of interchangeable battery trays with either universal or dedicated designs. With battery trays that can be designed to meet any need and the flexibility of a microprocessor based intelligent management system the IBMS is capable of servicing a wide range of NiCd and NiMH battery types. The versatility of this state-of-the-art design also allows for the application of this technology to meet the charging and management needs of new battery types and chemistries.
DRS Pivotal Power is currently developing a new generation Intelligent Battery Charger that will detect, analyze, charge and recondition multiple battery chemistries. The charger can automatically determine the battery chemistry, whether it be nickel cadmium, nickel metal hydride, lithium ion, or lead acid, and select the optimal charging profile.
